Not sure why patrons want to get up close to the musicians.  I guess every gig has a front row group that not only want to see and hear the action, but also feel the sweat.  If you wanted your body to internally vibrate, then the years and the tours that Bogus Slogan made during the mid-1960s were ideal.  Especially the 1965 Western States tour. Mostly small clubs. High powered amplifiers. 

The guys were no longer a show band with a 3 man horn section.  But their return to LA brought out the nostalgia.  Trumpeter Clayton Davis, alto sax Jesse Hancock and Ray Wilson, also on alto sax, were reunited and BS played extensively from the James Brown songbook.

The 901 Club stage in downtown Los Angeles could hardly be considered expansive.  Almost one plank wide, Owen’s drum kit was set sideways on the stage.  The horn section played from the wings.  With only 2 unfiltered spots for illumination, the band looked like they were in a police lineup.

After the first number, the first row of tables were empty.
