Bogus Slogan Poster #00001 - Inside View
An all ages dance party? It can’t get much wilder than that? New York City? Snow Storm?
The Megalopolitan Blizzard of 1983. Over 17 inches of snow in Central Park? Well. . .
Dating from the 1870s, the Chatham Square Maritime Hall was a brewery converted into a community center for the recreational, leisure, and cultural interests of the Five Points neighborhood. Even selling only standing room, the Hall could not hold all those who bought tickets. So the back doors were opened and the dancers spilled out into the old beer garden. The venue was transformed into a kaleidoscope of energy and rhythm.
Bogus Slogan was a little late to the 80’s dance music craze, When Madonna introduced herself to the world in late 1982, it became obvious that bouncy, energetic songs using synthesizers was the new thing. This dance-pop phase of Rock ’N Roll followed the Punk and Disco phases.
Bogus Slogan’s constant desire to please the masses, made a trip to Manny’s Music on West 48th Street necessary. The Yamaha DX-7 was still a few months away from being released and creating the “Yacht Rock” era (BS would join that music style too), but there were plenty of Korgs, Arps, Rolands, Moogs, to try out.
The store let the Band take 6 or 7 synths to a nearby rehearsal hall to demo. Boyd Jackson, the keyboard player, fell in love with everyone of them. After 4 hours of jamming, not only the band was ready to dance, but the #1 single “Sun Trippin’’ had been born.
Bogus Slogan has been rockin’ the world for over half a century. Springing from the Surf, Psychedelic, Garage of the Southern California 60s, the band has released over 3 dozen albums and toured America & the World extensively.
